HCS Testing & Exams - March 15, 2020

March 15, 2020

If you need an Aerospace or Leadership test to promote:

Login to eServices and goto “Cadet Programs, Cadet Online Testing”.  Then select either “Leadership Tests” or “Aero Dimensions Tests”.

Aerospace Test

You can pick any aerospace module that interests you and take that test (no need to go in order).  Here are the “Aerospace Dimensions, 3rd Edition” chapters in Adobe Acrobat format:

AE Dimensions - Module 1: Introduction to Flight

AE Dimensions -  Module 2: Aircraft Systems and Airports

AE Dimensions - Module 3: Air Environment

AE Dimensions - Module 4: Rockets

AE Dimensions - Module 5: Space Environment

AE Dimensions - Module 6: Spacecraft

Make sure you take the correct test.  The materials here are “Aerospace Dimensions, Edition 3”….don’t take the test for Edition 2 by mistake :)

Leadership Tests

Online versions and audio versions of some of the Leadership Tests can be found HERE.

Testing Help

One helpful trick is to open the test document in Adobe Acrobat….then you can use find function (Control-F or Command-F on a Mac)!  Type in the most unusual word from the question, and Adobe will highlight that word in the document….making it quicker to find the answers.  It’s always recommended that you read the text first since it’s a timed test (You won’t have time to search every question in the 30 minutes you’re allowed).  Also, as you get higher in rank the questions require more comprehensive understanding. It’s best to have two windows open side by side (one with the document open in Acrobat, and another with eServices so you can quickly answer the questions).  Click HERE for an example of how to do it on your computer.

Emergency Services

CAPT 116 General ES (GES):

The GES 116 Test is a prerequisite for *ALL* of the common CAP Emergency Services ratings. This online test must be completed before any member can participate in Emergency Services training, missions, or exercises.

This is an introduction to Emergency Services, a “License to Learn”, it can be completed in a very short amount of time. Just follow the instructions below:

I’ve attached the searchable pdf documents for the GES 116 exam.  It’s very easy and the items in “RED” are probably test questions! (hint, hint).

  • To take the test:  Goto eServices, Online Learning, Learning Management System and click the "Goto AXIS” button at the top of the page.  If you don’t see “CAPT 116 General ES”, then goto the Course Catalog button and find it to enroll. Click “Start” and then take the quiz using the CAPT 116 General ES pdf as an aid.

CAPT 117 Continuing Education Part 1:

Follow the instructions above to enroll.  Read the text and then take the quiz.

This one is accomplished in eServices, Online Learning, Learning Management System just like the GES exam.  You will only need “Part 1” for the 117 ES exam.  There is nothing to upload for GES 116 or CAPT 117.  These tests will automatically show compete in your SQTRs once you pass the tests.

FEMA courses IS100 or IS700:

Once CAPT 116 General ES is complete, you are legal to train for ES specialties.  In order to get fully qualified you will need to take a couple similar tests on the Incident Command System (ICS).  You will take these tests on the FEMA website. The tests you will need are ICS-100 and ICS-700.  The following page has links to these FEMA tests:

https://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/programs/emergency-services/operations-support/national-incident-management-system-nims

You will be prompted to create a FEMA account.  I have attached the searchable pdfs for these tests also.

Once you have completed the FEMA tests:
When you complete the course you will get a certificate.  Save the certificate to your computer.

  • goto eServices, Operations, Operations Qualifications.

  • Under the “Emergency Services” heading on the left you will click on “101 Card”.

    • Then at the top click “View/Upload Documents”.

    • On the “Emergency Services” tab, click “What would you like to upload”.

    • Select the test (IS-100 or IS-700) and then upload the certificate that you saved to your computer.

Updating your SQTR (Specialty Qualification Training Record):

  • From the menu on the left under “Operations/Operations Qualifications” and under the Emergency Services Heading you’ll see SQTRs.

    • Under that you can click on “Entry/View Worksheet”.

    • Enter your CAPID if prompted

    • Under “Achievement” click on the ES specialty you’ll like to work on (for example GTM3 or UDF).

    • If applicable, You can check the box for “Commander Approval for Prerequisites” and enter the date (Mission ID and Evaluator are not required).

    • You can also check the boxes for any tests that you have completed (after you upload the certificates).  Enter the date (no Mission ID/ Evaluator are required). At the bottom of the page click “SUBMIT”.

      • The tasks you entered will turn yellow and show “Pending”.  Your command staff will see that there is an Operations Qualification Pending approval the next time they sign in to eServices.

      • CAP SET’s will then check for your certificates and approve the items.  At that point they will turn “Green” in your SQTR and show “Active".  The approval may take a few days unless your commander is checking eServices more regularly.

Orientation Flights:

Aircraft Ground Handling Training (Powered Flights):

  • To take the test:  Goto eServices, Online Learning, Learning Management System and click the "Goto AXIS” button at the top of the page.  If you don’t see “Aircraft Ground Handling Training”, then goto the Course Catalog button and find it to enroll. Watch the video and then take the test.

If you need the Wing Runner Course (for Glider Orientation Flights):

  • To take the test:  Goto eServices, Online Learning, Learning Management System.  Under the “Operations” Section look for “SSF/CAP Wing Runner Course Final Exam”.

Click HERE for a searchable pdf for the Wing Runner Course.

Communications

ICUT (Introductory Communications User Training) Qualification

ANYTHING you do in CAP (Staff NCSA, Encampment or other, CAP Event (USAFA Graduation, etc.)), if you want to be able to use the radios or if you’re interested in MRO (Mission Radio Operator) you will need to pass ICUT (Introductory Communications User Training).

C/2d Lt Borchelt has a YouTube Video showing how to get ICUT qualified:

VIDEO: How to get ICUT qualified (YouTube)

  • Take Introductory Communications Users Training (ICUT)

To take the test:  Goto eServices, Online Learning, Learning Management System and click the "Goto AXIS” button at the top of the page.  If you don’t see “Introductory Communications Users Training”, then goto the Course Catalog button and find it to enroll.  Watch the video and then take the test.

      • 3 Sections to this test:

        • OP1

        • T1

        • OP2

All members with duties including unsupervised operation of radios on CAP frequencies must complete ICUT training.

  • Do in squadron hands on test (practical).

Once you have completed all portions of the online ICUT test, let a senior member know and we can either plan on testing you the next night we do testing as a group or see if we have time to test you individually.

Good luck!
